A Dinner to Benefit the Public Humanities in Massachusetts

The Governor’s Awards in the Humanities will be conferred upon three leaders in recognition of their public actions, grounded in an appreciation of the

humanities, to enhance civic life in the Commonwealth.

One of the three was 56’s own: Lia Gelin Poorvu…and the award read as follows:


"Lia Poorvu has worked as a teacher, volunteer, and organizer to improve dozens of local cultural institutions, such as Boston Baroque, the Boston Public Library, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Historical Society, the Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts University, WGBH, and Wellesley College."
